Healing Hands for Haiti

I got an e-mail from Kathi saying that they are mainly in need of money to purchase 6-8 man tents.  These will provide shelter for their Haitian employees during the rainy season.  They are wrapping everything up Saturday morning.  If you can make a contribution please contact the Salt Lake Office at 651-769-5846 to make donations.

Earthquake in Chili and Pacific Tsunami WARINGS!

So Sweet Haiti Fund

A couple weeks ago I was blessed with the opportunity to assemble hygiene kits for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.  I say 'blessed' because it was an eye-opening experience for me.   Kathi, a nurse and volunteer of Healing Hands for Haiti, came and shared with us photographs and experiences that she  had.  All of her experiences have been prior to the earthquake, and having been such tells of how utterly devestated they must be now. 

Since we are sort of in limbo at "So Sweet" right now, I thought maybe we could raise some funds for Kathi to take to Haiti.  She leaves on the 12th of March with as part of the Healing Hands for Haiti volunteer group.  They are in great need of monetary donations, medicines and various other medical supplies. 

I asked Kathi if I could share a story of how donations have helped in the past...

"Jony, a paid Haitian employee, came to me and told me of a little girl who couldn't walk. She had club feet. Her mother had carried her for 8 hours to get to the clinic. She looked about 8 years old. American Fork Jr High had raised about $800 and I had it in cash. I was able to give this money to Jony to get the little girl the surgery she needed so she could walk."

(Kathi has informed me that Jony has lost his wife in the earthquake. :( Jony has two young children.)

A group of young teenagers were able to raise $800 that consequently gave this little girl the chance to someday care for herself and others.

I know a lot of us are pinching our pennies, couponing is now a common way of life (at least by the looks of my neighbors driveways that all have 5 newspapers on Sunday :), Job loss is rampant or feared, etc.  If you have any money that you can give, please do.  EVERY little bit counts. 

I've asked Kathi to give us updates as she can , and to tell us what special circumstance our "So Sweet Fund" was put towards like the little girl in this picture helped by the American Fork Jr. High.

I justed wanted you to know that the new banners are up and running.  I've added two additional banners for those who win sweet stuff from our giveaways.  Also I added one for any product featured on our blog.  Just copy and paste a code into your html widget in your blog.  These will count as an extra entry in our contests in the future.  If you have the old banner it will still work...

What's to Come

As the creator of So Sweet Giveaways, I had envisioned this a place where new businesses could find exposure and receive attention necessary to carry-on in this formidable economy.  As I've thought, I've decided to add a few things.  If you see in my header I now have a link for 'recipes'.  They are soon to come.  What quailifies me to post recipes?...Good question because 5 years ago we had spaghetti every other night for dinner.  I have been taught by my SIL, MIL and BRIL (sister, mother, and brother-in-law) how to play chef and baker.  Though I wouldn't compare myself in their category, I've finally come up with some good recipes of my own and will encourage our sponsors, other bloggers, and readers to share their culinary creations as well.  Just so you are aware Culinary-In-Laws, I will not be posting your recipes as I know they are how you make a living or perhaps plan to someday.

The other new addition to So Sweet Giveaways will be a weekly article authored by me.  If you are family or close friends of mine, you may see some similarites in the weekly article to "Tidbits".   I will be writing about things that cross my mind as a mother, a woman, a dork, a religious individual, a complainer, an artist and a lot of other sweet things.  Stay tuned and thanks again for your support.

It's Been So Long
